Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are commonly used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure how a site is used.
This policy uses "cookies" loosely to also cover similar technologies — specifically browser local storage (data the site stores in your browser) — because, under UK PECR and ICO guidance, both raise the same consent considerations.
We split cookies and similar technologies into three categories:
These cookies are set on the planiverse.uk domain by our application:
| Name | Purpose | Type | Expires | Flags |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| planiverse_session | Keeps you signed in. Created on login, deleted on logout. Without it, you'd have to log in again on every page. | Essential | 30 days | HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax |
| planiverse_admin | Authenticates the operator into the admin dashboard. Set only on the admin login flow; ordinary users never receive this cookie. | Essential | 30 days | HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax |
We also use a few local-storage entries — these are technically not cookies, but we disclose them here because they store data on your device. Most stay on your device; the Mapbox telemetry entries (see below) are the exception — Mapbox periodically transmits them back to events.mapbox.com for its own billing and usage analytics.
| Key | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| pv_cookie_consent | Records your choice from the cookie banner ("accepted" / "declined"). Lets us avoid showing the banner on every visit. | Essential | Until you clear browser data |
| pv_user | Caches a signed-in user's display data (name, role) so the navigation bar can render instantly on each page load. We re-verify with the server in the background. | Functional | Until logout or browser data cleared |
| planiverse_welcomed | Records that you've seen the first-time welcome modal in the app, so it doesn't reappear. | Functional | Until you clear browser data |
| mapbox.eventData:[token] | Set by the Mapbox GL JS library (loaded on the property-search and report pages). Records map-load events that Mapbox uses for its own billing and usage analytics. The [token] suffix is the base64-encoded username segment of our public Mapbox access token (the keys are scoped per-token, not per-origin). Transmitted periodically to events.mapbox.com; not used for cross-site tracking. Only set on pages that show an interactive map. |
Functional | Persistent (re-used across map sessions) |
| mapbox.eventData.uuid:[token] | An anonymous identifier Mapbox GL JS uses to deduplicate the map-load events above. Not linked to any account or used for cross-site tracking. Only set on pages that show an interactive map. | Functional | Persistent (re-used across map sessions) |
If you accept analytics cookies, the following third-party scripts and cookies are loaded. None of these load until you click "Accept" on our cookie banner.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes unique users for analytics. Stored on the .planiverse.uk domain. |
2 years |
| _ga_JYWJJDDRNX | Google Analytics 4 | Persists session state for the GA4 property G-JYWJJDDRNX. |
2 years |
The following third-party services are loaded by the site but do not set cookies on the planiverse.uk domain. They may, however, set cookies on their own domains and/or see your IP address. We disclose them here for completeness:
api.mapbox.com and *.tiles.mapbox.com. Mapbox may set its own session cookies on those domains for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. Privacy policy.fonts.googleapis.com and font files from fonts.gstatic.com. No cookies are set, but Google sees your IP address.checkout.stripe.com to complete payment. Stripe sets its own cookies on that domain for fraud prevention and session security; no Stripe cookies are set on planiverse.uk. Stripe's cookie policy.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js is fetched, and analytics events are sent to google-analytics.com. Google's privacy policy.Cookie banner. The first time you visit, a banner appears asking whether you accept analytics cookies. Your choice is stored in pv_cookie_consent so we don't keep asking. You can change your mind at any time:
planiverse.uk, or use your browser's "block third-party cookies" setting. The banner will reappear on the next visit, where you can decline.planiverse.uk and pick "Accept" when the banner reappears.Browser controls. All major browsers let you delete cookies, block all third-party cookies, or block specific sites. The exact steps differ by browser:
Tracker-blocking and privacy tools. If you have an extension like uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, or your browser's built-in tracking protection (Brave Shields, Safari ITP, Chrome Tracking Protection in Incognito), those tools may block our analytics scripts even if you've clicked "Accept". We respect that and don't try to override it. In that case, no analytics data is collected from your browser regardless of your cookie banner choice.
"Do Not Track". The DNT header is no longer reliably honoured by browsers and is not a standardised consent signal under UK GDPR. We do not act on it; please use the cookie banner instead.
If we change which cookies or similar technologies the site uses, we will update this page. The "last updated" date above always reflects the most recent revision. If a change adds new analytics or tracking cookies, we will re-prompt for your consent before any new tracking takes effect.
